The original building was opened as a high school in January 1875 and became a Collegiate Institute in 1879.
It closed in 1954 when a larger building was constructed on 338 Elizabeth Street.
The building, at 151 Water St North, was renovated and remodelled and in 1961 was reopened as the North Ward Public School.
More alterations and additions were made in 1974.
June 27, 1984 it was renamed Arthur Meighen Public School in honour of Canada's ninth Prime Minister who had graduated from the high school there in 1892.
In 2007, the school was deemed prohibitive to repair by the province and was closed in 2010. |
